Dr. Avery Brown has been in pastoral ministry since 2000. He served as youth/associate pastor of Saint City COGIC in Romulus, MI, under the leadership of Bishop James L. Whitehead, Jr. Presently, Dr. Brown serves as Senior Pastor of Life Changers Church located in Flat Rock, MI, and has recently been appointed by Bishop Whitehead as Pastor of his Mother Church the historic Whitehead Memorial COGIC. 

As a native of Michigan, he matriculated at Eastern Michigan University earning a Bachelor of Science Degree in Psychology, a Master of Arts Degree in Clinical Counseling from Ashland University, and a Master of Divinity Degree in from Ashland Theological Seminary in Ashland, OH. He furthered his post-graduate studies at Andersonville Theological Seminary, earning a Doctor of Divinity and a Ph.D., in Clinical Counseling from Northwestern.

He has an extensive background in Human Service Field as a Teacher in the River Rouge Public School System, a Licensed Psychotherapist, Administrator and Director in the justice system both juvenile and adult. Dr. Brown currently serves as the Director of Correctional Health Programs for Cherry Health Services Inc. (a Federal Bureau of Prisons Contractor) Overseeing all Residential Reentry Centers within the Eastern and Western Districts of Michigan.

Dr. Brown has been recognized for his visionary leadership and organizational abilities within the Christian Community and Corporate America. He founded the innovative youth program Valor and Virtue University, which focuses on empowering youth to grow spiritually, relationally, socially, succeed educationally and occupationally.

Within the Church of God in Christ Inc., Dr. Brown serves on the local level as a District Superintendent (i.e., overseer of local churches), Jurisdictionally as Chief Adjutant (i.e., establishmentarian of protocol), Jurisdictional Secretary and Administrative Assistant within the Michigan Southwest Second Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction to Bishop James L. Whitehead, Jr.

Nationally, he serves on the editorial team as a reviewer and contributing writer of the International Sunday School Literature for the past 14 years, appointed in 2021 by the Presiding Bishop and Chief Apostle of the Church Of God In Christ, his Grace the Bishop J. Drew Sheard as the Vice-President of the O. T. Jones Memorial Training Institute, Upper Midwest Regional Vice President of MPM, and recently appointed in January of 2022 by Adjutant General, Bishop Dickerson L.S. Wells as Interim Dean of the National Adjutancy Academy, and in January of 2023 appointed officially as the first Dean of the newly named Adjutant General’s Academy of the National Adjutancy of the Church Of God In Christ. Additionally, Dr. Brown services in various civic capacities as a member of the American Association of Christian Counselors and the American Psychological Association.

Dr. Brown has been married to Gwen L. Brown for over 28 years. They are the proud parents of two adult children who are currently attending college and work alongside them in ministry, Jullian Bishop and Alana Gabriel Brown.
